Erin's Transformational Journey to becoming a Next Generation Leader

Updated: Jul 30, 2021

I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to join the Intrapreneurship Academy (IA), as organised by the Impact Hub in Geneva. The decision to be involved was an easy one as I was immediately attracted to the structure and variety of content in the program brochure. Additionally, I have always been a big fan of the Impact Hub and believed it to be a fantastic opportunity to develop my professional skills in a safe and constructive environment. It is a daunting task, stepping out of your comfort zone, but aided by truly impressive organisers/facilitators and a plethora of resources this became an enjoyable and stimulating process.

Overall, it exceeded my expectations and I have come away from the experience with deeper insights into, not only my professional ambitions, but myself on a humanistic level. Through the inspirational speakers and guided activities, all participants were encouraged to confront themselves and their work. This allowed for wonderful reflection and space to align our professional selves with our authentic selves. Creating this synchronicity has been key for me in developing my leadership skills and vision. It helped me gain confidence in my passion by putting it all out there and removing barriers to my potential, such as the fear of failure for example.

The IA enabled me to create and interact with a network of very special individuals, all having diverse experiences and perspectives. This collaborative environment promoted honesty and openness thus allowing us to truly learn from each other and engage with alternative realities. We were able to challenge our beliefs and I have been able to use the variety of helpful tools we were taught in everyday life.

Having grown up in the bush in Zimbabwe, nature has always been central to my existence. Through the IA, I was afforded the opportunity to challenge myself and push for exporting a responsible approach to biodiversity within the Geneva urban environment, particularly amongst the youth. I am passionate about citizen science, as I believe it has the potential to transform people’s relationship with the nature that surrounds them. This program guided me through a detailed and valuable process, by which I was able to turn this intrinsic belief into a reality. I don’t believe I would have been able to achieve this without the support of the other participants and organisers. It is of course an ongoing journey, but one that I feel is progressing in the right direction thanks to the foundational structure created during my time in the IA.

I would certainly recommend this wonderful experience to anyone who is dedicated to living as their best self and wishes for their professional ambitions to reflect that. So often we get caught up in the chaos of life and the pressure of the eternal rat race. This is an opportunity to take a step back, think, recalibrate, and move forward with a greater consciousness as to how we operate in this world. Our work is a direct output of who we are, and it’s important to align the two for the greatest chance at harnessing our potential and authentic energy. I believe I have been able to grow, both personally and professionally, thanks to the holistic and empowering process of the IA.

It has been a privilege to be involved in this program. It was designed and executed with immense focus on the participants, invaluable resources and consistent support from the organisational team. I could not have imagined a better experience and extend my greatest thanks to everyone at the Impact Hub for making it possible.
